Nanoparticle reinforcement of polysaccharides may provide a versatile tool to design and manufacture a novel generation of bioactive implant and artifical tissue matrix materials where an excellent biomechanical stability might be combined with high elasticity of flexible fibrous scaffold structures. The proposed project involves two major issues: i.) dispersion of the nanosized bioactive ceramic powder (TiCh and Cas(PO4)3/OH) in regenerated polysaccharide matrix and fabrication of bioactive textile and multilayer gradient structures ii.) characterization of mechanical behavior and biofunctional efficency. Processing of powder/ polysaccharide hybrid composites and fabrication of scaffold structures will be dealt with at Erlangen University. At Sung Kwon Kwan University the nanoparticle reinforced hybrid material composites and structures will be analysed for the mechanical and biological behavior in cooperation with the medical school.
