Research into risk requires integration among disciplines, application areas and theoretical concepts. It incorporates various scientific perspectives within the technical, natural and social sciences: Among the natural and technical sciences one needs to include engineering safety, natural hazards research, health risk assessment (epidemiology, toxicology) and environmental impact analysis. Social science risk research into risk governance comprises ethical studies, political science, sociology, economics, cultural studies, and social psychology, to name but the main perspectives. These disciplines influence social science risk research. An international workshop with leading representatives of mathematics, engineering, geography, health and environmental sciences, philosophy, political science, sociology, social psychology, economics and cultural studies will encourage a dialogue between these fields of research, thus strengthening social science risk research as a whole. Finally, risk governance will profit considerably from improved social science risk research.
