Project Details
Amplitude, mechanism, and dynamical significance of salinity variability in the Atlantic and Nordic Seas, analyzed from satellite data and ocean syntheses
Applicant
Professor Dr. Detlef Stammer
Subject Area
Oceanography
Term
from 2013 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 198122929
The goal of this project is to analyze the amplitude, mechanism, and dynamical significance of salinity variability in the Atlantic and Nordic Seas, analyzed from satellite data, and ocean syntheses. To this end we will study the salinity variability in the Atlantic Ocean and the adjacent Nordic Seas over the last 5 decades, and document mechanisms and significance of the dynamic changes in the freshwater content of the Atlantic. Mechanisms and amplitudes of the variability will be compared to results obtained from models.
