Taxonomy and biogeography of the hygrophilous Australian Clivinini, and of the arboricolous Australian genera Sarothrocrepis, Phloeocarabus, and Trigonothops. Taxonomic revision of the mentioned groups with description of numerous new species, redescription of the already described species and preparation of keys to the species.Examination of the phylogenetiic relations of the genera, and the species-groups and species within the genera, of their origin and the history of distribution. For the three arboricolous genera, which have representatives also outside of Australia, the phylogenetic und biogeographic relations of the extra-Australian species.Important questions are:For Clivinini: the change from hygrophilous habits to life at the ground in tropical and subtropical open forests ansdsavannahs away from water. For the arboricolous genera the question of the original habits: either under bark of eucalypts in open forest, woodland, and savannah, or on bark or in moss on the trunks of rain forest trees.
