Investigation of mass transfer in a system of impinging jets with focus on homogeneity

In case of coatings applied over the liquid phase, homogeneous mass transfer boundary conditions play an important role in the process of morphology and surface structure. Configurations of impinging jets widely used to set the boundary conditions within the gas phase result in a highly inhomogeneous distribution of the mass transfer coefficient. To determine the local and area averaged mass transfer coefficient in systems of impinging jets, literature offers correlations considering technical relevant parameters to give advice for adjusting the system to the field of application. However, in terms of homogeneity and intensity of the heat and mass transfer coefficients, literature lacks recommendations for the optimal design parameters. The goal of the presented research project is, using experimental and numerical methods, to figure out the fundamental relations for new configurations of impinging jets, especially for systems with effusion of the spent fluid over the orifice plate. The hypothesis contains that by effusion holes in the orifice plate of an array of confined impinging jets the homogeneity of the distribution of heat and mass transfer coefficients can be increased and by variation of the in- and outlet conditions regulated time-dependently.
