Arsenic speciation in mining wastes - case studies in systems dominated by ferric sulfo-arsenates
Final Report Abstract
Within this project, we have - determined the crystal structure of bukovskýite and the BFAS phases; - determined the thermodynamic properties of bukovskýite, the Ca-Fe arsenates arseniosiderite and yukonite, BFAS phases and zýkaite; - calculated phase diagrams for these phases; - carried out forward modeling and determined the saturation conditions in reactions which can realistically occur in soils and mine wastes; - additionally characterized the studied phases by spectroscopic techniques, especially by EXAFS. For the near future, we are planning the final step of the project in terms of application of the thermodynamic data to the case study field site near the city of Kutná Hora, together with the Czech co-PI of this proposal, Dr. Petr Drahota, of the Charles University in Prague.
