Project Details
Characterization and control of the interactions of a partially and a fully flowing 2D generic dual-bell nozzle with the afterbody flow (B06)
Subject Area
Fluid Mechanics
Term
from 2013 to 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 26293245
In the third funding period, the sub-project B6 will investigate the interaction between the wake flow of a 2D space launcher model with the jet flow through a 2D, partially and fully flowing, dual-bell nozzle. The aim is 1. to characterize and understand the interaction between the external and internal aerodynamics in order to determine the mechanical loads on the nozzle and 2. to establish efficient flow control strategies to reduce strong turbulent interaction events. Reaching these aims is of fundamental importance to extend the opera-tional range of the dual-bell nozzle for real flight applications.
