Project Details
Development of micro-optical components and coupling structures in thin polymer foils using hot embossing (B04)
Subject Area
Plastics Engineering
Term
from 2013 to 2017
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 210420491
B04 focuses on the realization of single-mode waveguides and sensor structures utilizing hot embossing and doctor blading. These components will be employed to develop multi-layer functionalized sensing foils. We also pursue first steps towards a reel-to-reel implementation of the fabrication process. To efficiently connect coherent/incoherent light sources and photodetectors as well as to provide optical network elements, we will realize coupling structures and network components based on a novel 2-wavelength self-written waveguide approach, as well as grating and evanescent field couplers both designed for single-mode optical elements as well as for coupling to specific optical modes.
