Project Details
Timing of colony phenology and foraging activity in honeybees (C02)
Subject Area
Sensory and Behavioural Biology
Term
from 2013 to 2017
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 208233609
Project C2 investigates the role of daily and seasonal timing for forager and colony performance in social honey bees and bumble bees. It will study time-place and interval time-place learning in field and lab experiments, evaluate the relative importance of temperature, photoperiod, and resource pulses as triggers of seasonal life history events in climate chamber experiments, address the fitness losses and gains of desynchronised colony phenology in relation to floral resource phenology and interactions with natural enemies, and evaluate effects of larval nutrition on nurse-forager transitions in honey bees.
