Fluid structure under shear stress
Subject Area
Physical Chemistry of Molecules, Liquids and Interfaces, Biophysical Chemistry
Term
from 2013 to 2017
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 237041970
Main objective of this proposal is the intensification and extension of an already ongoing cooperation between applicants and a Mexican partner institute. Within the context of this cooperation, a thematic workshop was held in 2008 in Mexico City, and academic exchange visits were initiated. This proposal aims at the investigation of the structure of flowing gases and liquids by means of computer simulation (mainly molecular dynamics) at high shear rates with the hope of finding an influence of the shear rate on fluid structure, which then would show the onset of non-Newtonian behaviour and shear-induced thermodynamic effects.Scientific work of this kind is already going on. With this proposal financial support is requesteda) to let a Mexican Ph.D. student come to Cologne for advanced training,b) to let his supervisor come to Cologne for project coordination as well as presenting lectures,c) to let the applicants travel to Mexico to give courses on computer simulation and thermodynamic computations.
