The project Religious Peace Treaties develops a critical and commented edition of significant European religious peace treaties between 1485 and 1788. For the first time the whole spectrum of religious peace treaties concluded in Early Modern Europe will be made accessible as a starting point for interdisciplinary research. This makes it possible to examine the specific modes of peace-making, the reasoning as well as the different conditions for a peaceful co-existence in a comprehensive historical and geographic-political context. In this way their time- and context-dependent character as well as historical lines of development and Europe-wide reception processes will be discernible. The edition which comprises five chronological modules is based, wherever possible, on the editio princeps in order to represent those texts which became the relevant version of the peace treaty for the contemporary public and which were received elsewhere, too. Introductions and an explanatory textual apparatus aid comprehension and enable a quick contextualization of the sources provided.
