Project Details
Modulation of neutrophil antifungal activity by intrinsic and extrinsic stimuli (C03)
Subject Area
Medical Microbiology and Mycology, Hygiene, Molecular Infection Biology
Term
since 2013
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 210879364
Project C3 continued analyzing the intrinsic networks that modulate neutrophil (PMN) activity in the context of fungal infections. C3 will now focus on mechanisms that facilitate immune escape in human blood as a potentially crucial event in disseminated systemic infections. Furthermore, the impact of antifungal treatment on host recognition of fungal pathogens will be analyzed. Immunomodulatory substances will be used to mimic immunosuppressive or host-directed therapy-related situations in patients. Results will be compared with patient-derived datasets generated within FungiNet, such as ex vivo whole blood infection in samples from CGD [chronic granulomatous disease] patients.
