Project Details
Dissociating neuronal representations of contents and texture along the ventral visual processing stream in the human temporal lobe (D03)
Subject Area
Human Cognitive and Systems Neuroscience
Term
since 2013
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 227953431
This project will use the unique opportunity to record the activity of single neurons in the medial temporal lobe of epilepsy patients performing cognitive tasks, an opportunity that has opened up a window to study the mechanisms of human cognition at the cellular level. The project will combine behavioral experiments, electrophysiological recordings in humans, and advanced computational modelling and data analysis to study visual processing. Specifically, the project will study how visual information in the periphery of the visual field is represented by activity patterns in the human medial temporal lobe, and how these representations guide, and are modulated by, eye movements. J. Macke is joining project D03, and will contribute newly developed computational tools to design naturalistic stimuli, and apply dimensionality-reduction methods to identify neural representations at the population level.
