Project Details
Friction under active control in systems with tailored degrees of freedom (A01)
Subject Area
Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term
since 2013
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 217133147
Project A01 aims to understand and control friction at manganite and graphene surfaces using AFM techniques and theoretical modeling, thereby tuning material properties. Previous work provided several remarkable observations, such as the increase of the friction coefficient when going through a transition from a metallic to a polaron conducting state. In the third phase, we will turn to non-contact mode, where the AFM tip does not touch the specimen. This mode provides a more direct access to dissipation channels and is also well accessible in theory.
