Quantitative analysis of service-oriented real-time systems with structure dynamics II (QUANTUM II)

Subject Area Software Engineering and Programming Languages
Term since 2013
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 241885098

Today, software has become an intrinsic part of complex distributed embedded real-time systems. These embedded real-time systems nowadays often become interconnected to systems of systems via complex software parts and the service-oriented paradigm to behave intelligently by building communities of autonomous agents that exploit local and global networking to adapt and optimize their functionality. Therefore, the behavior of such systems of systems is characterized by structure dynamics, which results from the complex coordination behavior as the structure resp. architecture is subject to changes at run-time, hard real-time behavior, and probabilistic aspects of the behavior due to failures or the environment. In Quantum I, a solution to cover the modeling and analysis of all these three dimensions has been developed. However, the research also indicated that sometimes, in addition, also the coverage of continuous behavior and stochastic delays would be beneficial to obtain (more precise) quality guarantees. Consequently, for Quantum II it is proposed to study (a) the extension of the modeling and analysis results obtained in Quantum I concerning these two additional dimensions and (b) improvements of the scalability of the analysis techniques to counteract the increasing complexity of the analysis originating from the considered extensions.
