Two types of proteins activated by cannabinoids (named Cannabinoid Receptors or CB) have been cloned so far. In the intended project, the development of a fluorinated, highly selective ligand for the CB type 2 is planned. Several derivatives of the lead molecule will be designed and the best one will be used for radiofluorination and further investigation with Positron-Emision-Tomography (PET). The development of such a radio-tracer will enable a better understanding of the cannabinoid system and the early stage diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases (ex. Alzheimer, Parkinson) and cancer.
