Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse

Die Medizinische Hochschule Hannover (MHH) hat als eine der führenden medizinischen Einrichtungen Deutschlands im Jahr 2000 das erste strukturierte und akkreditierte interdisziplinäre MD/PhD Programm im biomedizinischen Bereich etabliert. Im Jahr 2003 folgte die Gründung einer Graduiertenschule (Hannover Biomedical Research School) als Dachorganisation für alle bereits existierenden und zukünftigen postgraduierten Programme. Zur Zeit sind fünf internationale PhD Programme – „Molekulare Medizin“ (seit 2000), „Infektionsbiologie und DEWIN“ (seit 2003/ 2010), „Regenerative Wissenschaften“ (gegründet durch den Exzellenzcluster „REBIRTH“ im Jahr 2007), „Hörforschung“ (gegründet durch den Exzellenzcluster „Hearing4all“ im Jahr 2013) und „Epidemiologie“ (seit 2013) - sowie ein von der DFG gefördertes Graduiertenkolleg (mit dem Karolinska Institut in Stockholm) und ein Marie Curie Initial Training Network in die Schule integriert. Ein strukturiertes Doktorandenprogramm für Studierende der Medizin oder Zahnmedizin (StrucMed) ist ebenfalls erfolgreich seit 2005 etabliert, ein zweites „Klinisches StrucMed“ startet im Juli 2015. Mit Hilfe der Förderung im Rahmen der Exzellenzinitiative hat die HBRS bereits eine hohe nationale und internationale Wahrnehmung, Attraktivität und eine ausgezeichnete Reputation für die (MD)/PhD Ausbildung erreicht. Die HBRS koordiniert die Curricula, garantiert eine exzellente Ausbildung in ausgezeichneten Forschungslaboratorien und fördert Motivation, Integration und den interdisziplinären Austausch von Studierenden und jungen Wissenschaftlern mit medizinischem, naturwissenschaftlichem oder auch seit 2007 mit ingenieurwissenschaftlichem Hintergrund. Zusätzlich fördert sie den Lehr- und Wissensaustausch mit universitären und nicht-universitären Einrichtungen in der Region Hannover. Dazu gehören die Leibniz Universität Hannover, die Tierärztliche Hochschule Hannover, das Fraunhofer Institut für Toxikologie und Experimentelle Medizin in Hannover sowie das Helmholtz Zentrum für Infektionsforschung in Braunschweig. Des Weiteren schafft die HBRS den Rahmen für internationale Gastdozenten, Sommerschulen und die Ausbildung von talentierten Studierenden auf dem Weg zu zukünftigen wissenschaftlichen Karrieren. Die HBRS schafft optimale Bedingungen insbesondere für weibliche PhD Studierende und möchte diese dadurch ermutigen und unterstützen, eine wissenschaftliche Karriere einzuschlagen. Sie unterstützt das an der MHH vorgesehene Modell des Prinzips der dualen Karriere, insbesondere für klinisch tätige Wissenschaftler. Hierbei kommen Rotationsstellen und Tandemforschergruppen zum Einsatz. Die HBRS stellt somit die Initiationszündung einer Reihe von Maßnahmen zur Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses an der MHH dar. Das „Freiwillige Wissenschaftliche Jahr“ wurde im Jahr 2011 ins Leben gerufen und dient nun als Modell für ganz Deutschland. Die „Lower Saxony International Summer Academy in Immunology“ (LISA) gibt es seit 2011 und kürzlich ist die „Junge Akademie“ gestartet, ein Programm, in dem junge Fakultätsmitglieder und Gruppenleiter (Mediziner und Naturwissenschaftler) sich für mindestens sechs Monate ganz der Forschung und Lehre widmen können.
