With the new funding phase, the FID for Communication and Media Studies is significantly expanding its service profile through cooperation with the Institute for Media Studies at the Philipps University of Marburg and the Marburg University Library, the operators of the media studies repository media/rep/. The expertise built up at the Leipzig and Marburg sites in the adlr.link and media/rep/ projects is to be merged into a joint FID portfolio under the new name FID Media –Fachinformationsdienst Kommunikations- und Medienwissenschaft (Specialized Information Service Communication and Media Studies). The services in the field of literature supply of adlr.link, which are well-established among the specialist community, are supplemented by the publication services of media/rep/ and will both be further developed. New services will be added in the area of community contribution, networking and consulting, access to relevant scientific (special) literature, primary sources and research data as well as supporting open science. The reorientation of the FID Media is characterized by a decided promotion of open science, with a special focus on strengthening open access components. In addition, closer networking with infrastructural institutions (NFDI), networks, other FIDs and, in particular, cultural and memory institutions will be sought, as they preserve research-relevant source materials whose digital accessibility plays an increasingly important role in the research process. The FID Media sees itself as a mediator between these institutions and researchers and channels access to relevant materials from very different sources for users. By integrating legal expertise, we also want to promote open-access publishing and make the findings available to the FID system as a whole. The new conception and systematic further development of the FID is based on the fact that the core of the previous services – adlr.link and media/rep/ – are perceived as central and mutually complementary subject-related infrastructures by the communication and media studies community. To this end, previously separate services will be brought together under one roof and redesigned according to subject-specific needs in order to exploit synergies. The overarching goal is the demand-oriented development, testing, and establishment of services to provide a comprehensive, subject-specific information supply that goes beyond basic needs and to support the open science transformation of communication and media studies.
