The medieval documents that were once kept in the archives of the Augsburg Cathedral Chapter are hitherto largely untapped sources of the development of possessions, and the social or cultural history of an important corporate ruling entity. Furthermore, these underexploited charters provide striking information on the varied personal and institutional relationships of the community of canons. A well-established method will be used to create medium-length Regesta (exact summaries) from about 1200 documents, which will provide a substantive overview of the holdings dating from 1099 to 1424. In addition, a small selection of special letters concerning the statutes of the Augsburg Cathedral Chapter (Statuta capitularia) will be completely edited with historical and critical comments. An extensive index of personal names and places, along with the documents that have already been catalogued, will provide the basis for further investigation of the medieval Cathedral Chapter of Augsburg and its manifold relations within the region, the Empire, and the church, as well as comparative research on cathedral chapters and episcopal courts.
