Subject Area Medieval History
Term since 2014

This long-term project concerns the continuation and completion of the 'Acta Cusana' in Berlin. The 'Acta Cusana' is one of the most important series for the editing of late medieval sources. Its particular significance lies in its detailed documentation of the life of the great philosopher, cardinal, and Church politician Nicolas of Cusa, as well as of the various political, intellectual and religious contexts in which he operated, on the basis of well-preserved and uniquely uncorrupted sources. This project is of European scope and has long enjoyed international recognition. Its continuation and completion are highly desired by the scholarly community (see the reviews listed in 2.3c). The only way to achieve this objective is with a well-organized, long-term project supported with the requisite staff, as requested in this application.
