The goal of this project is to study the predissociation dynamics of molecular iodine (I2) via covalent and ion-pair states for I2 in the gas phase and in He nanodroplets. Both nanosecond and femtosecond photoionization will be employed in combination with ion and electron imaging. Fur-thermore, the photodynamics of complexes of I2 with rare gas (Rg) atoms (Ar, Kr, Xe) and with benzene (C6H6) will be studied both in a molecular beam and inside He nanodroplets. I2Rg com-plexes open a route to efficiently populating long-range ion pair states of I2, which are expected to feature particularly interesting dynamics in He nanodroplets. I2C6H6 is the paradigm for photo-induced charge transfer reactions which will be probed by femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy in He nanodroplets for the first time.
