Final Report Abstract

During the course of this project, different diblock copolymers with crosslinkable segments have been synthesized and characterized. Regarding our initial aims, we encountered problems during the synthesis of PI-b-PFGE diblock copolymers but substitution of FGE with FMA (furfuryl methacrylate) resulted in dual crosslinkable diblock copolymers of varying composition. The diblock copolymers were crosslinked using different techniques (via UV irradiation or utilizing Diels-Alder [4+2] cycloaddition) yielding in nanostructured and crosslinked block copolymer films. Initial studies indicated the presence of a gyroidal morphology and this will be further investigated. In addition, diblock quartpolymers have been synthesized which offer 3 distinctly different crosslinking possibilities – two of which could already be demonstrated, one of those (CuAAC crosslinking of propargyl acrylate) being selective, thereby not affecting either the PI and the PDMAE segments. In summary, during this project an in-depth understanding regarding the polymerization of monomers featuring crosslinkable moieties in the side chain and the crosslinking of different block copolymers in general has been gained.
