The proposed project aims at the development of functional multiliposomal constructs as well as the investigation of their structure and properties. The strategy for the fabrication of the multiliposomal constructs is based on the use of cationic polymer particles as liposome carriers with complex architectures interacting electrostatically with anionic liposomes. As cationic polymer particles, we intend to use star-shaped homo- or heteroarm ionic polymers or interpolyelectrolyte complex polymersomes enriched with ionic groups from one of their polymeric components. The structure and properties of the co-assemblies of the cationic polymer particles with the anionic liposomes will be examined by a combination of various experimental techniques including methods based on fluorescence, scattering and analytical ultracentrifugation. Such complex constructs are of considerable interest because of their potential application for a combined delivery of (conflicting) drugs and active compounds, expecting synergistic effects.
