The biomimetic promise: natural solutions as concept generators for sustainable technology development in the construction sector (C01+)
Subject Area
Construction Material Sciences, Chemistry, Building Physics
Evolution and Systematics of Plants and Fungi
Evolution and Systematics of Plants and Fungi
Term
from 2014 to 2018
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 231064407
In the second funding period, the key objective will be extended from the “biomimetic promise” to the “biomimetic challenge” in terms of the transfer of biological success principles into bio-derived and sustainable developments. The focus will be shifted to the change of function in relation to the invested resources and to the relationship between multifunctionality and the provided resources. As an example, separation processes in biology will be studied and their potential will be analysed for serving as role models for the disintegration of technical compound materials into their components at the end of use allowing for reuse or improved recycling.
