Two Suns in the sky: the TEST telescope on the quest for planets around binary stars

Subject Area Astrophysics and Astronomy
Term from 2014 to 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 262374930

Final Report Year 2019

Final Report Abstract

The main results of our program are summarized as follows: 1. A new mount and CCD camera with filter wheel for the TEST was purchased, set-up and tested. TEST is now ully operational. 2. A new control software for TEST was developed. It is possible to observe in manual and automatic mode, hence, using the TEST as robotic station. 3. We observed more than 40 objects from the Dwarf campaign looking for candidates for circumbinary exoplanets and obtaining several minima times for each object. All objects are suitable of being a candidate for circumbinary exoplanet. 4. Using the measured and calculated minima times we computed O-C diagram. O-C diagrams show periodic variability in residuals indicating presence of third body. 5. We demonstrated that TEST is capable to observe transit event with enough accuracy. The instrument can thus be used to help confirm transiting planets via on-off photometry found by the TESS transit search satellite and in the future PLATO.
