Protic ionic liquids as innovative electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries

Subject Area Physical Chemistry of Molecules, Liquids and Interfaces, Biophysical Chemistry
Acoustics
Solid State and Surface Chemistry, Material Synthesis
Term from 2015 to 2019
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 264118673

The proposed project focus on the investigation of innovative electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries. The aim is to acquire to acquire new insight about the chemical-physical properties of protic ionic liquids (PILs) in view of their use as electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries. PILs display all favourable properties of ionic liquid, but with the advantage of being easier to synthesize and cheaper with respect aprotic ionic liq-uids so far investigated. Recent results indicated this subset of ionic liquids as a new and interesting class of electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries. Nevertheless, many aspects related to the use of PILs-based electrolytes still need to be investigated. The results of this project will bring new and important knowledge in view of the design of advanced ionic liquids-based electrolytes and safer lithium-ion batteries.
