Synthesis, crystal growth, and phase diagrams of frustrated magnets (B01)

Subject Area Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term since 2015
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 247310070

Project Description

This project explores materials aspects of frustrated magnets with a focus on cobaltates with frustrated spin networks, complex oxides with strong spin-orbit coupling and geometric frustration phenomena potential, and intermetallic half-Heusler compounds with magnetic frustration due to a breathing pyrochlore lattice. Our aims comprise (i) the identification of emergent frustrated magnets with targeted compositions using polycrystals, (ii) the exploration of growth routes towards yet unavailable single crystals of materials with magnetic frustration, and (iii) the determination of structural, magnetic and thermodynamic properties towards mapping of electronic, magnetic or pressure phase diagrams.
