We propose a holistic approach for PUF based key generation. Information theoretic modeling and analyses will provide a foundational view on the complete scenario of key generation from physical sources and will allow the development of new concepts and evaluation criteria for key generation using PUFs. Based on these results new algorithmic concepts will be developed integrating bit extraction from physical sources with error correction codes. Goal is to maximize the information retrieved from PUFs for a key without compromising security. During prototyping, the new concepts are realized and analyzed with respect to security and cost aspects in hardware.
