Project Details
Conserved transcriptional programs for renal specification and reprogramming (B07)
Subject Area
Nephrology
Term
from 2015 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 246781735
Congenital anomalies of the kidneys and urinary tract (CAKUT) are a common cause of kidney disease in infants. The underlying genetic causes of this defective development are still not completely understood. Thus, the aims of this project are to define the transcription factors contributing to the kidney specification and to functionally analyze these factors. To describe conserved transcriptional programs for kidney specification and morphogenesis, we will carry out experiments with the species Xenopus, mouse and human. In addition we will try to differentiate kidney cells and/or generate them through direct reprogramming by means of specific expression of transcription factors in pluripotent and differentiated cell types.
