Project Details
Self-organization and mechanics of actomyosin networks attached to artificial and cellular plasma membranes (A17)
Subject Area
Biochemistry
Term
from 2015 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 178321814
Even though cortical actin plays a pivotal role in cellular mechanics and morphogenesis, only very little is known about the organization of the cortex attached to the plasma membrane, its collective dynamics, and how its dynamics affects mechanical properties. This project aims to disentangle the contributions from network architecture, contractility and dynamic attachment to the plasma membrane to the viscoelastic properties of the cellular cortex, by using membrane-attached minimal actin cortices and cell membrane fragments derived from living cells.
