Investigations on the synthesis and coordination chemistry of silicon analogues of crown ethers and cryptands with Si2 units

Subject Area Inorganic Molecular Chemistry - Synthesis and Characterisation
Solid State and Surface Chemistry, Material Synthesis
Term from 2015 to 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 270194627

The main goal of this project is the synthesis and investigation of novel crownethers and cryptands that exhibit Si2Me4 bridges between the donor atoms. As a possible synthesis pathways, template syntheses are planned as well as stepwise construction of the ligands. Investigations of the coordination properties of these ligands lead to a better understanding of the coordination properties of oxygen atoms in Si-O-Si units and thus also provide information to a better understanding of chemical bonds between silicon and oxygen atoms. In the course of the first funding period we have shown that these ligands can also be used for the synthesis of unusual solvates and are also able to adapt to the size of the cation by oligomerization. In addition to the fundamental investigation of coordination, applications of these ligands in the fields of synthesis of unusual solvates and Zintl chemistry are planned.
