Subject of the research training group is the interdisciplinary research on the psychic conditions of the making and of the effect of works on art in their historic modifications. A main focus is directed to the historic research of emotions. The research training group aims at reviving the collaboration between psychology, psycho-analysis and history of art which has been neglected in Germany for a very long time. Here, it resumes also analytic positions of the history of art and the language studies since 1920 as they can be found in the works of Ernst Kris, an art historian and psycho-analyst from Vienna who emigrated to the USA in 1932. A special interest is also dedicated to the psycho-analystic works dealing with with aesthetics and fine art, first of all to the writings of Sigmund Freud.
