GRK 271:  The Standard Model of Elementary Particle Physics - Its Structure, Precision Tests and Extensions

Subject Area Condensed Matter Physics
Term from 1996 to 2005
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 271473

Elementary particle physics is one of the major fields of modern physics, and it is a main subject of research at the Department of Physics of the Humboldt University Berlin. In the research training group there are research groups at the Humboldt University in theoretical particle physics in the fields of superstring theory, lattice gauge theories and particle phenemenology. The experimental research groups participate in experiments both at the Deutsches Elektronen Synchrotron Hamburg (DESY) and the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN) in Geneva. In addition, a theoretical research group of the Free University of Berlin, and since April 1999, an experimental research group of the Technical University Dresden are also involved in the research training group. Both the experimental and theoretical fields are supported by DESY Zeuthen. The program of study aims at providing for each fellow an enriching atmosphere for independent research as well as an opportunity to learn about developments beyond the fellows's speciality. Emphasis is given to the mutual communication between the PhD students of the various work groups and especially between theoreticians and experimental physicists.
