Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse

A wide range of complexes of BB multiply-bonded compounds with Cu (and Ag) fragments have been prepared in this project. Although most of these turned out to be either non-emissive or unsuitable for photphysical studies, they have unmistakable value as novel structures and synthetic achievements. Those that are amenable to photophysical studies have been examined, are currently being studied or will be in the near future. The completed synthetic and photophysical studies require some further work, and will thus be complemented with photophysical studies on related complexes before compiling them into a comprehensive full paper. Despite the conclusion of the funding period of this project, synthetic efforts to construct coinage metals of diborenes and diborynes are ongoing in our groups, as we believe there are many more avenues to explore in this chemistry. Although there seems to be no empirical rationale as yet for the design of complexes with desired luminescence properties (or even luminescence itself), further synthetic efforts will undoubtedly lead to the discovery of more complexes with interesting photophysical properties, and these will be studied as part of an ongoing collaboration between the two groups.
