Aim of the research training group is the comparative study of "Icons in Late Antiquity". In contrast to previous attempts philological (i.e. Greek, Latin, Semitic, Arabic), historical, archeological, theological, philosophical and legal approaches should be combined. For this reason, members of the Philosophical, Theological and Legal Faculties of the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena as well as external representatives participate in the group.
