GRK 837: Functional Insect Science
Subject Area
Zoology
Term
from 2003 to 2009
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 273543
The Research Training Group offers a multidisciplinary research and training programme. Scientists from various zoological disciplines of the participating four universities (University of Potsdam, Free University, Humboldt University, and Technical University of Berlin) contribute to the research and training programme. The PhD students are trained in all aspects of functional insect science, from the understanding of the molecular basis of physiological processes in single cells, up to the complexity of biological structures and functional mechanisms, including humoral and neural regulatory mechanisms, complex behaviour associated with intra- and interspecific communication, and mechanisms of learning and memory. This broad approach of the research and training programme takes into account the fact that research on and understanding of complex physiological processes requires both, studies of the molecular bases and on the systemic-organismic level, and vice versa.
