Interplay of correlations and spin-orbit physics in 1D and 2D surface systems (C03)
Subject Area
Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term
from 2015 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 258499086
Epitaxial sub-monolayer assemblies of metal atoms on semiconductor surfaces constitute a versatile class of low-dimensional electron systems with variable electronic properties, which allow a detailed and controlled study of prototypical many-body and interaction phenomena. In this project we will utilize such surface adlayer structures for detailed studies of the effects of spin-orbit coupling in the presence of strong electronic correlations, in either 2D frustrated geometries or in the special case of 1D confinement.
