Project Details
Melt filtration in continuous casting operations – continuous casting of steel (B06)
Subject Area
Metallurgical, Thermal and Thermomechanical Treatment of Materials
Term
from 2015 to 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 169148856
The investigations of the 3rd grant period shall disclose fundamental principles of reactive cleaning, in particular the interaction between non metallic inclusions (NMI) and reactively generated bubbles in the filter system. Here, NMI attachment and detachment at bubble surfaces as well as NMI layer development at the filter structures will be investigated by numerical and experimental modeling. Optical flow measurements shall disclose the transport processes of NMI at the interfaces between bubble and model melt. NMI agglomeration on the bubble surface as well as the influence of bubble shape and size, coalescence and bubble break up on NMI transport will be analyzed in the experiment and with numerical simulations. By application of the macro model which was developed in the 2nd grant period, the flow in casting vessels with reactive cleaning operations will be simulated.
