The goal for this project is the exploration of the generic phase diagram spanned by electron correlations and spin-orbit coupling. We will focus on 5d iridate films, establish high-quality thin film growth and study the corresponding electronic quantum phases by (angle-resolved) photoemission at low, soft, and hard x-ray energies.
