A global role of alternative splicing in the secretory pathway: The COPII scaffold and beyond (A21)

Subject Area Cell Biology
Term from 2015 to 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 184695641

Project A21 addresses a global role of alternative splicing in controlling membrane scaffolds and a function in adapting the secretory pathway to cell-type-specific requirements. We will 1) characterize mechanistic details how tissue-specific alternative splicing of the membrane scaffold Sec31A controls the secretory pathway, 2) use a Crispr-based screen to address the functionality of around 200 candidate splicing events, which were identified in previous work, in protein secretion, and 3) address a role of splicing-controlled membrane scaffolds, e.g. Sec24, in controlling cargo selectivity, also for large secretory cargo such as collagen.
