Geometrical Structuring of Component Surfaces by Micro Grinding (B09)

Subject Area Metal-Cutting and Abrasive Manufacturing Engineering
Term from 2015 to 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 172116086

Project Description

The aim of the subproject is to investigate the influence of the manufacturing parameters of micro pencil grinding tools on their process behavior. Micro grinding is a process that offers high potential when machining complex microstructures in hard and brittle materials with small structure sizes and high structure qualities. In this subproject the influence of metal working fluids, the coating method, the substrate geometry and tool specifications on the material removal mechanism will be analyzed when micro grinding hardened 16MnCr5 steel as well as quartz glass with micro pencil grinding tools.
