This project investigates the medium-range to subseasonal predictability of European heat waves, which gets increasing relevance in the light of the projected global warming. In phases 1 and 2 we illuminated the differ-ent physical processes playing a role for the establishment and persistence of recent heat waves. In phase 3 we plan to continue the project by enhancing our current study of predictability jumps and by extending our scope to the sub-seasonal timescale.
