The interactive digital media establishes new potentials for various types of self-determined and active learning. To realize these potentials not only educational concepts are necessary, but also a systematic approach to the design of the digital media itself. Up to now in the research field of informatics (computer science) a systematic analysis of the requirements for digital media ineducational contexts is missing. Reflexive Experience Design in educational contexts aims at developing such a concept. The ambition is to develop a concept for the design and design principles, which afford sensory experience at the same time evocating reflection as essential condition for deep learning. The programmability of the interactive digital media by learners themselves enables them to experiment in digital environments, and with digital medium itself. RED is based on the methods of experience design, but modifies and adapts them to the special requirements of educational contexts with regard to a constructivist appThe interactive digital media establishes new potentials for various types of self-determined and active learning.
