Expansion of the e-journal iMex. México Interdisciplinario / Interdisciplinary Mexico

Subject Area African, American and Oceania Studies
Term from 2015 to 2019
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 281715309

Since it was founded in December 2011, the online publication iMex. México Interdisciplinario / Interdisciplinary Mexico (www.imex-revista.com), which is published twice a year, has aimed to connect the extremely effective research of different disciplines in Mexican studies and enhance its mutual productivity, visibility and academic impact. The published editions are structured by theme and provide academic articles from the following subject areas: literary and cultural studies, history, communication studies, art history, media studies, philosophy, political science, law, sociolinguistics, sociology and economics. Within each of the areas the initiated methods and viewpoints investigate predominantly the production of knowledge in cultural, communicative and social processes in Mexico from both synchronic and diachronic perspectives. In this context, American and transcontinental interrelations are of particular importance. Furthermore, each published edition includes reviews and optionally, a section on the cultural environment. To ensure and facilitate the international spread of the magazine it is available in two languages: Spanish and English with same content websites. Texts can be submitted in either language. iMex facilitates publications of high-profile academics as well as junior scholars, given that standard peer-review processes and an international advisory board provide for quality assurance. The requested support to further develop the journal will help to adapt the technical framework and optimise editorial processes. A transfer to an open source content management system will reinforce ease of use. The visual presentation will be revised according to standard viewing patterns, and an increased usage by mobile devices will be considered respectively. The recognition of a structured data management to fuel content goes as a given. In combination with the planned expansion of personal networks and institutional involvement, all mentioned initiatives will complement and facilitate the position of iMex in the academic community at an international and interdisciplinary level.
