Plexins comprise a family of transmembrane proteins, which serve as receptors for semaphorins. They play decisive roles in a multitude of physiological and pathophysiological processes, e.g. in the immune system, the bone system and in cancer. The signal transduction pathways of plexins remain poorly understood. In particular, the molecular mechanism through which plexins regulate the activity of Ras GTPases is largely unclear. The aim of this proposal is to characterize the role of the RasGAP protein Rasal1 for the signal transduction of plexins, and to analyze its functional relevance in vitro and in vivo in mice.
