Project Details
New Functionalized and Patterned Surface Coatings via Cyclophane-Based Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) Polymerization (B03)
Subject Area
Solid State and Surface Chemistry, Material Synthesis
Term
from 2016 to 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 259079535
This Project deals with the synthesis of novel functionalised cyclophanes and the preparation of chemically and topologically controlled surface coatings via CVD polymerisation. The project seeks to elucidate the role of molecular reaction control for three major structural elements: (i) the primary sequence of CVD copolymers, (ii) topologically defined polymer architectures, and (iii) hierarchical controlled chirality in nanofibre-decorated polymer surfaces. Synthetically, we will diversify the range of polymer structures via CVD of novel nitrogen-containing heterocyclophanes. CVD polymerisation of chiral phane-type molecules into chiral and achiral mesogenic templates will further our understanding of multi-scale chirality.
