A highly important goal of the coordination project is the organization and promotion of regular annual meetings and regular communication of all prinicpal investigators and participating scientists of the consortium. Within this project, we have established a research data management system and an ExCarBon central data store (KUM-Box). In this context the establishment and maintenance of the ExCarBon home page for external and internal presentation of the research consortium and its activities is implemented successfully and is constantly updated. Promotion of gender equality measures and early career support of junior researchers were successfully accomplished in the first funding period and they remain important aims for this extension project. We want to further foster exchange of personal between subprojects and organize workshops for Ph.D. students and PostDocs with external speakers. In the first funding period, the PostDocs have organized two summer schools with external experts, which were attended by all members of the consortium. After having successfully achieved the goals of the Mercator fellowship during the first funding period, we plan to extend the Mercator fellowship of Prof. Dr. Brian Johnstone also during the 2nd funding period. In the context of a final international symposium at the end of the first funding period we organized an outstanding ExCarBon symposium together with the annual meeting of the German Society of Matrix Biology (DGMB) in Regensburg. We plan again a final symposium at the end of the second funding period and want to invite outstanding national and international scientists with focus on osteoarthritis for presentation of their research.
