The Integrated Research Training Group (IGK) trains all junior scholars from the various subprojects of the SFB as well as a group of associated PhDs. It is seamlessly connected to the already existing doctoral training programme in the Research Academy at Leipzig University with its Graduate School Global and Area Studies. The IGK thus brings together the independent research activities of the doctoral candidates with training modules such as research seminars, winter and summer schools, soft skill workshops and individualized supervision by a Thesis Committee. A specific component of the programme targets the needs of Postdocs who pursue an academic career. International guest scholars support the transdisciplinary character of the IGK programme which addresses specific challenges junior researchers face in their studies and projects. On the one hand, doctoral students need to anchor themselves in an academic career within a certain discipline, and, on the other hand, there are study problems that require a transdisciplinary or postdisciplinary approach. In independently organized workshops, junior scholars establish their own networks and research environments in order to further their skills and knowledge.
