Project Details
Light-Field-Driven Currents in Graphene and Synthetic Carbon Allotropes as Functional Electron Optical Elements (B11)
Subject Area
Optics, Quantum Optics and Physics of Atoms, Molecules and Plasmas
Term
from 2016 to 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 182849149
Synthetic carbon allotropes are the focus of the project, in order to conduct strong field physics and matter wave experiments with free electrons of low energy (eV range). The project is divided into two work packages (WPs). In WP1 we investigate coherent electron dynamics in graphene and graphene nanocontacts on ultrafast (sub-) femtosecond time scales. In WP2 we plan to holographically image functionalized carbon nanotubes using coherent low-energy electron diffraction. In WP2 we also investigate the ultrafast electron emission of nanocrystalline diamond tips, which should enable extremely good electron beam properties.
