Wilhelm Dilthey is regarded as one of the most influential philosophers of the 19th century. Even today, this can be seen in the history of philosophy and in the number of publications concerning his philosophy. Furthermore, numerous translations of his work have been translated into Portuguese, Polish, Spanish and Basque. But today, only a few letters of Dilthey have been published in German as well as foreign languages. In view of the topical character of his work and one year after the 100th anniversary of the death of Wilhelm Dilthey at 1st October 2011, an edition of his letters appears to be a true desideratum of research. Thus the presented project aims at the production of a four-volume edition of the letters of Dilthey. The first volume of this edition was presented in May 2011 (XXV pp. and 929 pp.).The purpose of this edition is to make Dilthey's letter accessible to readers of philological, philosophical and historical interests. It is also an important contribution to history of science and higher education, history of mentalities and social history.
